Our global partnership programmes
We engage in a range of global partnerships, including transnational education (TNE), strategic collaborations, study exchange programmes, and virtual mobility initiatives. These partnerships strengthen our global presence, enabling academic excellence and knowledge-sharing across continents.
We are also a founder member and proud partner of Northern Consortium (NCUK) which has been providing international students with a pathway into UK university programmes since 1987.
Transnational education partnerships
We collaborate with leading institutions worldwide to offer Transnational Education (TNE), allowing students to earn a Sheffield Hallam degree without relocating to the UK. Find out more about our TNE partners.
Strategic partnerships
We establish strategic partnerships based on shared values and a commitment to applied learning and global impact.
- La Trobe University, Australia: Our collaboration fosters student exchanges, joint research and innovative teaching initiatives, strengthening the academic experience for both institutions.
- Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design (KNUTD), Ukraine: In response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, we twinned with KNUTD to provide support for Ukrainian students and academics.
Study exchange
Our exchange partner network enables our students to spend a semester studying at one of our global partner universities – enhancing their academic, cultural and professional experience. We also welcome incoming students from our partner universities to spend a semester or full academic year studying on our international exchange programme.

Virtual exchange
We are committed to providing an inclusive international experience for all our students. Virtual Exchange (VE) or Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) is an educational approach that leverages technology to connect students and educators across borders, enabling collaborative, cross-cultural learning without the need for physical travel.
We encourage all courses to embed VE/COIL and look forward to expanding these opportunities and working closely with our partners.
