It is deeply concerning for us all to see reports of the escalating conflicts and developing humanitarian crises in the Middle East. 

We know that you may find this very distressing and challenging, particularly if you are from the region, or have family, friends or other close ties there.

Our community

As a large and diverse student and staff community, it is important that we support and respect each other. We must all be aware that individuals have differing perspectives and views. 

As a university, we have a clear commitment to upholding academic freedom and freedom of speech within the law. We welcome respectful debate and discussion on complicated issues, but our community should be aware that supporting terrorist organisations in the UK, is a criminal offence.
