How you learn

The course is delivered through a blended learning model, combining online and face-to-face teaching with self-directed study. Teaching is provided in block delivery format to suit working professionals.

Learning is supported through online resources available anytime, structured workplace activities, and regular input from academic staff. You’ll complete applied work-based projects, and your development will be reviewed every 12 weeks in progress meetings involving you, your employer, and your apprenticeship coach.

Assessments include Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs), case studies, vivas, and a professional portfolio designed to align with the End Point Assessment (EPA).

You will also have formative assessment opportunities throughout the course to support your learning and development.


 

Applied learning

You will apply your learning both in university and in your workplace, with structured off-the-job training and practical work-based activities that relate directly to your clinical role.

A training plan will guide your workplace development, supported by regular progress reviews. You’ll be supported by a named mentor and an apprenticeship coach who will work in partnership with your employer to ensure your learning remains relevant and on track.

Campus facilities

You'll learn in modern facilities at our Collegiate Campus including mock wards and operating rooms, simulation suites, and interactive manikins.

On this course you work with:

Entry requirements

The entry requirements ensure the apprenticeship is accessible to a diverse range of applicants while maintaining appropriate standards.

Applicants must:

  • have the right to abode in the UK
  • meet the course entry requirements

GCSE (or equivalent)

Maths and English at level 2 or above (grade 4, or previously C).

If you don't have this yet, we will refer you to our functional skills training partner where you'll need to complete the relevant qualifications during the first year of your apprenticeship.

If English is not your first language, you will also need an IELTS score of 6.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in all skills, or equivalent. If your level of English language is below IELTS 6.5 we will recommend an appropriate pre-sessional English course. Which will allow you to achieve the required level of English. 

Additional qualifications

Plus the following:

  • A first degree 2:2 or equivalent (Diploma graduate with evidence of CPD should be accepted). 
  • Current registration with their professional regulatory body.
  • At least three years post-registration experience, currently working in a relevant clinical area with access to a suitable co-ordinating education supervisor/mentor.
  • To engage in university learning during term time with the full support of workplace management. 

Other qualifications may be considered in discussion with the university. 

We do acknowledge recognition of prior learning and will be managed on an individual basis.

Modules

The course is designed so that learners will apply their learning back to the workplace as part of every module. Delivered through a combination of academic learning and work-based learning.

  • Pharmacology and pathophysiology in enhanced practice 
  • Personal and professional development in enhanced practice

Elective modules 

  • Remote triage for enhanced practice
