The situation in Afghanistan is extremely concerning, and we know that members of our staff and student community will be worried about what the future holds for those who live there

Advisers from our International Experience team are in touch with Hallam students that we know are affected by the situation, and we are working hard to ensure they have the support that they need at this time.

We also know that some of our colleagues and students will have family and friends in Afghanistan, who will be very worried about the safety of their loved ones. We hope that safe passage out of the country can take place for those who do want to leave, and that those who do so will be welcomed in other countries, including the UK.

Sheffield Hallam is proud to be a University of Sanctuary, and we recognise the important contribution made by refugees and asylum seekers to our city. You can find out more about the support that we provide to the refugee and asylum seeker community in Sheffield, as well as our work with CARA, the charity for at-risk academics, on the University of Sanctuary page of our website.

As a University of Sanctuary, we also provide scholarships and bursaries each year for talented students who have sought asylum in the UK. These are made possible thanks to generous donations from our alumni, students and staff. This September, members of #TeamHallam are running the Sheffield Half Marathon to raise funds for Sanctuary Scholarships, and .
