Help Uproar Art earn a nomination for consideration of a $250,000 grant.  In order to be considered, Uproar needs to get 250 votes.  Every vote helps and it takes only a few seconds to cast your vote.  You don't even need an account, just log in through facebook.  Here is the facebook link http://www.facebook.com/events/355059507899587/.  You can learn more about Uproar Art by visiting their web site at http://www.uproarart.org/.  In order for your vote to count it needs to be cast before June 30th.

Below is the email I received directly from Uproar director Max Goodman.

Hi All!

As many of you know, I run a non-profit for kids called Uproar Art.
We offer free and low-cost classes for kids and teens in the Brooklyn
community, and this year started an in-school Visiting Artists
Program.  Uproar has just entered a contest to win a $250,000 grant,
and we need your vote.  To be considered, we need to earn 250 votes by
June 30th.  The voting process is free, quick and easy, so please help
Uproar today.  Visit
www.missionsmallbusiness.com and search for Uproar Art.  Another cool
thing is that you can vote for more than one business, so feel free to
find a few more to support.  Thanks in advance for helping us out, and
don't hesitate to share this with other folks you know.  This grant
would mean the world to me!

Thanks again -

Max

Another shot from my old studio in Philadelphia. As I get ready to head back east, I have been reminiscing about that studio. It was my first year out of undergrad and anything seemed possible.

Free Opportunity Friday

6/22/2012

I have not been keeping up with this series of posts, but here I go trying to get back on track.  Stop paying 35, 40 or even 50 bucks for juried shows!  Check out this week's free chance to participate in an exhibition, publication, etc.

This week's opportunity was started by an unnamed independent curator.  Check out the details below.

Deadline: 10/06/12

This project calls for artists to create works in reaction to each of William Powhida's 17 tips for selling art. A tip/prompt will be posted each week, starting at the top of his list, and working our way through (you can also work ahead/catch up as needed, but the project will close on October 6th). There will be a curated catalog of the results (and we're working on arrangements for an exhibition).

To participate, make 1 work of art (any medium) for each tip (that's 17 works - ambitious!), and email a print-quality image of each work (at least 5 inches on widest dimension and 300dpi), the title, medium, dimensions, and date. All works will be posted to the blog as they are received.

Feel free to invite others - this is an open project.
