Doctor Vicky Hood PhD

Senior Lecturer and Course Leader for Pre-Registration MSc Physiotherapy

Summary

I am a chartered physiotherapist with a strong interest in enabling people with long term neurological conditions to maintain their physical activity.

I am a full time academic and course lead for the MSc Physiotherapy (Pre-Registration), where I am module lead for the dissertation modules. I am passionate about facilitating students to develop research skills which will transfer into clinical practice.

About

I am an experienced clinician, lecturer and researcher, with a PhD in Biomechanics. I have been involved in developing undergraduate and postgraduate courses in my specialist areas of human movement, neurology and long-term conditions, with a focus on dementia.

I have previously worked with the  Division of Rehabilitation and Aging at the University of Nottingham in research focussing on physical activity and falls prevention in people living with dementia. I was a co-applicant on an NiHR funded project  “Promoting Activity, Independence and Stability in Early Dementia (PrAISED).  This was a 5-year, multicentre randomised controlled trial, with an intervention embedding in the NHS.

I am an experienced supervisor of student research projects from BSc level to PhD level. I have encouraged students to publish their work and they have been successful in this. I have also helped and worked with students who have accessed NHS clinical research training which helps to keep research embedded into the places it will be used.

From January 2025, I am the course lead for the MSc Physiotherapy (Pre-Registration). I am module lead for MSc dissertations.
