About
Martin Culliney joined SIOE in March 2016. He mainly works with quantitative data but also has significant experience from qualitative and mixed method studies. His substantive interests include employment, education, young people, rural labour markets and social capital and his academic work encompasses all of these areas.
Martin gained his PhD from the University of Birmingham in 2013. His thesis compares the labour market prospects for young people in rural and urban areas of Britain using a mixed method design. This included longitudinal analysis of the British Household Panel Survey.
After completing his doctoral research Martin worked at the Institute for Employment Studies. He then moved to the University of Lincoln where he acted as the interim leader of the BA Sociology programme, with responsibility for curriculum design and coordinating several undergraduate modules. He has taught extensively at both Lincoln and Birmingham, covering a wide range of topics in research methods and social theory.
Martin has been lead author on reports for Defra, ACAS and the Youth Endowment Fund and has also worked on projects commissioned by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, the Department for Education, and the Government Equalities Office. He is the Principal Investigator on three large randomised controlled trials funded by the Education Endowment Foundation.
